The Sore Losers – Ultra Elektric

With the release of opening track “Tightrope”, The Sore Losers announce their new, fifth album. It will be titled Ultra Elektric and will be released on October 22nd on Suburban Records.

Singer/guitarist Jan Straetemans: “Tightrope immediately sets the tone for the sound and energy of the record. Ultra Elektric crackles with electric guitar riffs and uptempo rock songs. “Three years after Gracias Señor (2018), The Sore Losers are brimming with the desire to go hard, or as guitarist Cedric Maes puts it: “The Sore Losers are ready to rock your brains to a pulp! That’s bad news for anyone waiting for the latest electropop sensation or even more acoustic dreamy songs, but very good news for anyone looking forward to a cool rock record”. We could already hear that in the singles YeahYeah Yeah and Amy and the band continues that line relentlessly in the other 10 tracks.

In the fall, the band will bring their new album live to the public with an extensive tour. Jan Straetemans: “We wrote this album with the stage in mind, so we wanted to increase the tempo. We can’t wait to fill the set with a new batch of hard, fast rock numbers.” After foreign adventures with Dave Cobb, Dolf De Borst (The Datsuns), and James Petralli (White Denim), the band felt ready to take matters into their own hands. Cedric Maes: “When we worked with such an international top producer, there was always one of the four of us who paid close attention to what was happening, we wanted to know what every button was for.” Now they have done it all themselves: from songwriting to recording techniques to producing and mixing.

The album was even partly recorded in the band’s own recording studio: Ultra Elektric Studio. The new album certainly lives up to its name. Jan Straetemans: “That title symbolizes our independence. After 11 years, we know better than anyone how The Sore Losers should sound and we have not let anything or anyone stop us from pursuing that sound.” The band has made it their mission to play the rock music they need. Cedric Maes: “We follow our urge to write songs, straight from the heart and because we have to, the world needs good rock bands! Lyrically, we are sometimes closer to Little Richard than to Dylan, but that is not a bad thing.” Jan Straetemans agrees: “Some records you put on to listen to the lyrics, but this is just a good, solid rock record, fuck it. It is the hardest we have ever made, everything goes into the red: tempo, energy, volume, yes even the cover.”

Ultra Elektric will be available on vinyl and CD, and all streaming platforms. The Sore Losers will be seen live for the first time again at Het Zomerkwartier in Hasselt on August 7.

Suburban Records

At Suburban Records, we believe that all great music has one thing in common: soul. Soul has the unique ability to communicate happiness, love, sorrow, and anger — all the essential qualities that distinguish an average song from a unique one. When we sign new artists, we look for that soul in their songs and sound, as well as in the stories they tell. Within these parameters, we give our artists total creative freedom, which we consider essential.
